Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted right-handed pitchers Yhonathan Barrios and Shane Carle to Bradenton. Left-handed pitcher Andy Otamendi has been promoted to West Virginia from Jamestown. Right-handed pitcher Robby Rowland has been transferred to West Virginia from Bradenton.

Carle, taken in the tenth round last year, had a 3.72 ERA in 82.1 innings for West Virginia this year, along with a 47:9 K/BB ratio and a 1.81 GO/AO ratio. Barrios was originally signed as a shortstop, but converted to a reliever last year. He’s a hard thrower, capable of consistently hitting the upper 90s. The results haven’t been strong this year, with a 4.70 ERA and 16 walks in 38.1 innings, although he is striking out a batter an inning. He had a good month of June, with a 2.40 ERA in 15 innings, along with a 15:2 K/BB ratio.
