Minor League Schedule: Tyler Glasnow Gets the Start Tonight

Seven teams on the schedule today, with West Virginia taking the day off. Tyler Glasnow goes for Bradenton tonight. As you can see below with his recent results, he has been giving up more hits than usual, but his control is much improved. AAA: Indianapolis (56-48) vs Charlotte (44-59) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Brandon Cumpton (5-1, 1.50)
Yesterday’s Result: Charlotte 8, Indianapolis 3

Brandon Cumpton will make his ninth start of the season for Indianapolis. He has also made ten starts for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his last start, Cumpton threw eight shutout innings, giving up two hits and four walks. He has pitched much better on the road this year, posting a 4.00 ERA at home in three starts. He has given up just one earned run over 36 innings on the road.

AA: Altoona (39-64) @ New Britain (50-50) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Joan Montero (3-4, 5.09)
Yesterday’s Result: New Britain 4, Altoona 3

Joan Montero will make his seventh start of the season tonight. He has also pitched 21 times in relief. Montero has thrown 58.1 innings, allowing 71 hits, no homers and 32 walks. He has 27 strikeouts, a 1.34 GO/AO ratio and a .320 BAA. In his last start, Montero lasted just two innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks. No pitcher in the Pirates minor league system has thrown more innings without allowing a homer

High-A: Bradenton (53-45, 18-11 2nd half) vs Dunedin (61-39) 6:30pm

Tyler Glasnow will make his 16th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 76.1 innings, allowing 46 hits, one homer and 39 walks. He has 86 strikeouts, an 0.79 GO/AO ratio and a .177 BAA. In his last start, Glasnow went 5.2 innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and one walk, with four strikeouts. In each of his two previous starts, he allowed seven base hits, setting and then tying his career high for hits allowed. After averaging three walks per start in his first 12 games, he has given up one walk in each of his last three starts. Glasnow has a 2.13 ERA on the road and 1.41 at home.

Marek Minarik will make his eighth start of the season tonight. He has thrown 28.1 innings, giving up 27 hits, no homers and 19 walks. He has 13 strikeouts, a 1.68 GO/AO ratio and a .255 BAA. In his last start, Minarik gave up five runs in 1.2 innings, his shortest outing this season. In his two home starts, he has allowed just one run on three hits in nine innings.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
