John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.

Pirates Prospects has been independently owned and operated since 2009, entirely due to the support of our readers. The site is now completely free, funded entirely by user support. I think it is time to move Glasnow to Altoona – 11 more Ks tonight, 1-0 shutout win, 1.64 ERA to date. He’s making it look pretty easy in the FSL – lets see what he can do in AA for the next 45 days. Move Sampson to Indy, and fill in his spot with Glasnow.

John, do you think it’s time to move Dodson to the bullpen yet? Maybe call up creasy or Kuchno to finish the season in Altoona.

I was wondering that. He’s been keeping his walks down which should be enough to call him up right? I mean, they don’t expect him to completely cure any control issues before a call up I would hope.

So at this point does he have a plus fastball, plus curve and average/passable change?

Skys the limit for him. Awesome. Thanks John. Here’s hoping to June 2016.
