Minor League Schedule: Nick Kingham Has Improved Command Since Arriving in Indianapolis

All eight teams on the schedule today, including two doubleheaders. Jamestown is making up a game from earlier in the year, while the GCL Pirates are going to finish off yesterday’s suspended game before the play they regularly scheduled game, which will now be seven innings. Nick Kingham will make his eighth start for Indianapolis and 20th start overall this season. Between Altoona and Indianapolis, he has thrown 116 innings, giving up 104 hits, four homers and 31 walks. He has 87 strikeouts, a 1.06 GO/AO ratio and a .239 BAA. In his last start, Kingham gave up four runs(three earned) on six hits and no walks in six innings. He walked 25 batters in 71 innings with Altoona and just six over 45 innings since being promoted.

AA: Altoona (41-64) @ Bowie (53-51) 6:35pm
Probable starter: Jhonathan Ramos (2-3, 5.34)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 8, New Britain 5

Jhonathan Ramos will make his third start of the season, second for Altoona. He made one start and six relief appearances for Indianapolis, plus another 23 relief appearances for Altoona. Ramos has pitched a total of 44.2 innings this year, surrendering 49 hits, nine homers and 13 walks. He has 29 strikeouts, an 0.93 GO/AO ratio and a .274 BAA. In his last start, he allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk in 4.2 innings.

High-A: Bradenton (55-45, 20-11 2nd half) @ Lakeland (49-49) 6:30pm

Buddy Borden will make his 20th start of the season tonight. He has also pitched once in relief. Borden has thrown a total of 90 innings, giving up 74 hits, ten homers and 41 walks. He has 76 strikeouts, a 1.00 GO/AO ratio and a .222 BAA. In his last start, he lasted just three innings, giving up four runs on three hits and five walks. Borden allowed three runs on five hits in five innings the last time he faced Hickory. He walked none in that game and picked up eight strikeouts.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (15-23) @ Batavia (18-20) 5:05pm DH
Probable Starter: Alex McRae (0-2, 4.15) and Jose Regalado (5-2, 3.52)
Yesterday’s Result: Auburn 6, Jamestown 2

Alex McRae will make his eighth start of the season today. He has pitched 30.1 innings, allowing 30 hits, one homer and six walks. He has 18 strikeouts, an 0.95 GO/AO ratio and a .250 BAA. In his last start, McRae took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits and a walk in five innings. Against Batavia on 7/7, he allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks in five frames. Jose Regalado will get the start in the other Jamestown game. He has pitched eight times this year, all in relief. Despite that games pitched total and throwing just 15.1 innings, Regalado has somehow managed to pick seven decisions and five wins. He has an 8/8 BB/SO ratio.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
