Minor League Schedule: Glasnow and Heredia Get Sunday Afternoon Starts

AAA: Indianapolis (56-53) @ Rochester (59-48) 1:05pm
Probable starter: Brandon Cumpton (5-2, 2.61)
Yesterday’s Result: Rochester 1, Indianapolis 0

Brandon Cumpton will make his tenth start for Indianapolis today. He has also started ten times for the Pirates. Cumpton has thrown 58.2 innings for Indianapolis, giving up 56 hits, five homers and 17 walks. He has 29 strikeouts, a 1.52 GO/AO ratio and a .265 BAA. In his last start, he gave up eight runs on 12 hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. Cumpton is facing Kris Johnson today. He pitched for Indianapolis the last two years, briefly appearing in the Majors with the Pirates. He led the International League in ERA last season and has a 2.75 mark this year.

AA: Altoona (43-65) @ Bowie (54-53) 6:05pm
Probable starter: Pat Ludwig (1-4, 6.43)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 11, Bowie 0

Pat Ludwig is scheduled to get the start for Altoona tonight. He has made five starts and one relief appearance for Altoona. In his last start, which was for Bradenton on Monday, he gave up two runs over seven innings. In 88.2 innings this year, Ludwig has a 23/67 BB/SO ratio and a 1.28 GO/AO ratio.

High-A: Bradenton (57-46, 22-12 2nd half) @ Lakeland (50-51) 1:00pm
Probable starter: Tyler Glasnow (7-4, 1.64)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 5, Lakeland 1

Tyler Glasnow will make his 17th start of the season today. He has thrown 82.1 innings, allowing 50 hits, one homer and 41 walks. He leads all Pirates minor league pitchers with 97 strikeouts. Glasnow has an 0.76 GO/AO ratio and a .178 BAA. In his last start, he threw six shutout innings, picking up 11 strikeouts. He has made eight starts on the road and eight at home. Glasnow has a 2.13 ERA at home and 1.22 on the road.

Low-A: West Virginia (37-67, 17-19 2nd half) @ Rome (37-69) 2:00pm
Probable starter: Luis Heredia (1-3, 4.72)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 9, Rome 8

Luis Heredia will make his 12th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 47.2 innings, allowing 45 hits, six homers and 26 walks. He has 22 strikeouts, a 1.11 GO/AO ratio and a .247 BAA. In his last start, Heredia gave up two runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. He did not pick up a strikeout. He has a 5.06 ERA in six road starts. Heredia has a 6.00 ERA in four July starts.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (17-25) @ Auburn (19-22) 5:05pm
Probable Starter: Marek Minarik (1-3, 5.34)
Yesterday’s Result: Jamestown 4, Batavia 2 in 10 innings

Marek Minarik will make his ninth start of the season tonight. He has thrown 32 innings, allowing 30 hits, two homers and 20 walks. He has 17 strikeouts, a 1.81 GO/AO ratio and a .252 BAA. In his last start, Minarik gave up four runs on three hits and a walk in 3.2 innings. He allowed five runs over 1.2 innings in his previous outing. In three home starts, he has a 3.55 ERA and .146 BAA. On the road, Minarik has a 6.52 ERA and .308 BAA.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
