Minor League Schedule: Casey Sadler Looks to Stay Undefeated on the Road

Six teams on the schedule today, with the DSL Pirates off for the weekend while the league plays it’s All-Star game. Probable starter: Casey Sadler (8-2, 2.41)
Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 15, Columbus 5

Casey Sadler will make his 15th start of the season tonight. He has also pitched four times in relief for the Pirates. For Indianapolis, Sadler has thrown 86 innings, allowing 81 hits, five homers and 18 walks. He has 52 strikeouts, a 1.85 GO/AO ratio and a .254 BAA. In his last start, which was against Columbus, Sadler gave up two runs on seven hits and three walks in six innings. He has a 6-0, 2.31 record in nine road starts.

Thomas Harlan will make his third start for Altoona tonight. He has gone five innings in each start, giving up a total of five runs on 12 hits and two walks. With Bradenton this year, Harlan made 21 relief appearances, allowing 52 hits, one homer and nine walks in 50.2 innings. He had 41 strikeouts, a 1.26 GO/AO ratio and a .255 BAA.

High-A: Bradenton (50-44, 15-10 2nd half) @ Dunedin (60-38) 5:00pm
Probable starter: John Kuchno (4-8, 3.84)

John Kuchno will make his 20th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 103 innings, surrendering 98 hits, three homers and 41 walks. He has 48 strikeouts, an impressive 2.45 GO/AO ratio and a .255 BAA. In his last start, Kuchno went eight innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk. In eight home starts, he has a 3.43 ERA over 42 innings. Kuchno had a 3.76 ERA before the All-Star break and 3.99 in six starts since the break.

Justin Topa will make his 14th start. He has also pitched five times in relief. As a starter, Topa has a 5.25 ERA in 58.1 innings, with 74 hits, six homers and 13 walks. He also has 42 strikeouts as a starter, with a 1.41 GO/AO ratio and a .315 BAA. In his last start, Topa gave up three runs on eight hits and no walks in five innings.

Billy Roth will get his sixth start of the season today. He has thrown 19.1 innings, allowing 18 hits, three homers and 13 walks. He has 19 strikeouts, a 2.17 GO/AO ratio and a .243 BAA. John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
