Minor League Schedule: Dovydas Neverauskas Has Pitched Well in May

AAA: Indianapolis (28-19) @ Charlotte (15-31) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Jake Brigham (1-2, 3.53)
Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 15, Charlotte 6

Jake Brigham will make his eighth start of the season tonight. He has also pitched once in relief. He has thrown a total of 43.1 innings, allowing 38 hits, two homers and 16 walks. Brigham has 45 strikeouts, an 0.84 GO/AO ratio and a .232 BAA. In his last start, he went six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and three walks. His previous outing was three shutout innings in relief. Brigham has a 2.61 road ERA.

AA: Altoona (19-27) @ Erie (18-27) 4:35pm DH
Probable starter: Joely Rodriguez (1-4, 4.73) and Tyler Sample (3-2, 4.76)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 11, Akron 6

Joely Rodriguez will make his ninth start today. He has thrown a total of 40 innings, allowing 46 hits, three homers and 13 walks. Rodriguez has 19 strikeouts, a 1.88 GO/AO ratio and a .289 BAA. In his last start, he gave up two runs on three hits and three walks in 5.2 innings. Rodriguez struck out a season-high seven batters in the prior outing. He gave up five runs over five innings to Erie on May 1st. Tyler Sample will make the other start today. He has started five times and pitched in relief three times. Sample has thrown a total of 28.1 innings, allowing 28 hits, one homer and 23 walks. He has 24 strikeouts, an 0.87 GO/AO ratio and a .269 BAA. In his last start, he recorded just one out before being pulled, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks. Sample has pitched twice in relief since then, surrendering seven runs in seven innings.

High-A: Bradenton (23-25) @ Charlotte (24-23) 6:00pm
Probable starter: John Kuchno (3-3, 3.95)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 9, Daytona 2

John Kuchno will make his tenth start of the season tonight. He has thrown 41 innings, allowing 41 hits, no homers and 24 walks. Kuchno has 22 strikeouts, a 3.00 GO/AO ratio and a .265 BAA. In his last start, he went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and three walks. Kuchno has a 3.24 ERA at home and 4.44 ERA on the road. He had a 4.64 ERA in five April starts and 3.20 in four May outings.

Low-A: West Virginia (16-31) vs Lakewood (18-27) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Dovydas Neverauskas (3-1, 4.25)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 8, Lakewood 6

Dovydas Neverauskas will make his ninth start of the season tonight. He has pitched 36 innings, giving up 44 hits, three homers and 17 walks. He has 25 strikeouts, an 0.87 GO/AO ratio and a .312 BAA. Neverauskas had one real poor outing in which he gave up seven runs on 11 hits against Hagerstown on April 26th. In each of his other eight starts, he has given up three runs or less, including five shutout innings in his last game. Neverauskas had a 5.59 ERA in April and his ERA sits at 3.32 in May.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
