Minor League Schedule: Creasy Looks to Help West Virginia’s Playoff Chances

The West Virginia Power lost last night, leaving them just a 1/2 game ahead of Hickory for the second playoff spot in the SAL Northern division. Indianapolis has off today. AAA: Indianapolis (73-59) @ Rochester (72-59) 7:00pm 8/22
Probable starter: Jameson Taillon (0-1, 4.50)
Yesterday’s Result: Syracuse 3, Indianapolis 2

Indianapolis is off today. When they return to play on Thursday, top prospect Jameson Taillon will be on the mound.

AA: Altoona (58-69) vs Reading (54-74) 7:00pm
Probable starter:  Nate Baker (3-2, 6.11)
Yesterday’s Result: Reading 2, Altoona  0 (game recap)

Nate Baker will make his fifth start of the season. He has also pitched 31 times in relief. As a starter, he is 1-1, 4.84 in 22.1 innings. In his last start, he went five innings, allowing five runs on ten hits and no walks. In his previous start, he issued six walks. Baker is 2-0, 5.40 in 36.2 home innings this season. He had an 8.72 ERA prior to the All-Star break and he has posted a 3.45 ERA since the break.

High-A: Bradenton (51-70 overall, 25-28 2nd half) vs Jupiter (64-62) 6:30pm

Joely Rodriguez will make his 11th start for Bradenton tonight. Prior to joining the Marauders, Rodriguez went 5-5, 2.72 in 14 starts for West Virginia. On the year, he has thrown 128 innings, allowing 132 hits, seven homers and 34 walks. He has 92 strikeouts, a 2.18 GO/AO ratio and a .270 BAA. In his last start, he went five innings, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks.

Low-A: West Virginia (72-55 overall, 35-22 2nd half) @ Charleston (68-58) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Jason Creasy (4-4, 2.96)
Yesterday’s Result: Charleston 3, West Virginia 2 in 11 innings

Jason Creasy will make his 12th start of the season tonight. He has also pitched 18 times in relief. As a starter, he is 2-4, 2.68 in 53.2 innings with 48 strikeouts. In his last start, Creasy allowed one run on six hits over six innings, picking up eight strikeouts. He has allowed one run in each of his last three starts. He has a 1.26 GO/AO ratio and a .256 BAA.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (35-22) @ Mahoning Valley (23-34) 7:05pm
Probable Starter: Shane Carle (1-0, 2.12)

Shane Carle will make his fourth start of the season. He has also pitched ten times in relief. His last outing was in the starting role five days ago and he threw seven shutout innings. Carle started against Mahoning Valley on 7/3, going four innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk. He has thrown a total of 46.2 innings, giving up 43 hits, two homers and four walks. He has 39 strikeouts, a 1.97 GO/AO ratio and a .244 BAA.

Rookie:  GCL Pirates (26-26) vs GCL Tigers (30-22) 12:00pm
Probable Starter: Wei-Chung Wang (0-3, 3.66)
Yesterday’s Result: Pirates 4, Yankees2 0 (game recap)

Wei-Chung Wang will make his 11th start of the season today. He has pitched 39.1 innings, allowing 31 hits, two homers and three walks. He has 32 strikeouts, a 1.20 GO/AO ratio and a .209 BAA. In his last start, Wang went five innings for the first time, giving up two runs on four hits and no walks. All of his starts have come on the road this year, though one is listed as a home start, but that was a make up game that was played on the road with the Pirates batting as the home team. Today’s game is also a road game.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
