Pirates Dominican Pitcher Suspended 50 Games

Published:

Pittsburgh_Pirates10Pittsburgh Pirates Dominican Summer League pitcher Delvin Hiciano has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for metabolites of Stanozolol, according to Maury Brown of Biz of Baseball. Hiciano was signed last year on July 1st, right before the 2012-13 international signing period began. He was 20-years-old when he signed, and turned 21 before making his debut this year in the DSL.

So far this year he has given up one earned run on seven hits in 8.1 innings, with a 3:7 K/BB ratio. Because of the age and the lack of usage, he seems more like an organizational guy to fill out the DSL teams. His suspension will begin immediately, and should carry over to next season.
