Minor League Schedule: Heredia Headlines Sunday’s Probables

Luis Heredia will take the mound today, as West Virginia wraps up a series in Lexington. Also of note, Casey Sadler returns from the disabled list to start for Altoona. AAA: Indianapolis (63-46) vs Syracuse (47-59) 1:35pm
Probable starter:  David Bromberg (NR)
Yesterday’s Result: Syracuse 7, Indianapolis 5 in 10 innings

David Bromberg will make his Indianapolis debut today. With Altoona, he went 5-8, 3.71 in 16 starts and five relief appearances. Bromberg has thrown 104.1 innings, allowing 97 hits, five homers and 42 walks. He has 100 strikeouts, an 0.94 GO/AO ratio and a .251 BAA. In his last start, he gave up one run over four innings.

AA: Altoona (49-56) @ New Hampshire (52-52) 1:35pm
Probable starter:  Casey Sadler (7-5, 3.38)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 9, New Hampshire 2

Casey Sadler returns from the disabled list to make his 18th start of the season. He has thrown 96 innings, giving up 90 hits, eight homers and 25 walks. He has 54 strikeouts, a 1.74 GO/AO ratio and a .254 BAA. In his last start on 6/30, he was hit by a comebacker from the lead-off batter of the game. He left with a right knee contusion and has been out the last four weeks.

High-A: Bradenton (39-64 overall, 13-22 2nd half) @ Brevard County (52-47) 5:05pm 
Probable starter: Pat Ludwig (0-1, 3.15)
Yesterday’s Result:  Bradenton 2, Brevard County 1

Pat Ludwig will make his fourth start for Bradenton. He also started once for West Virginia. Ludwig has also pitched 23 times in relief for the Power and three times for the Marauders. In his last start, Ludwig went 4.2 innings, giving up four runs(two earned) on six hits. On the year, he has pitched a total of 69 innings, allowing 59 hits, five homers and 18 walks. Ludwig has 56 strikeouts, a 1.61 GO/AO ratio and a .231 BAA.

Low-A: West Virginia (57-45 overall, 20-12 2nd half) @ Lexington (54-46) 1:35pm

Yesterday’s Result: Lexington 4, West Virginia 2 (game one) West Virginia 3, Lexington 1 (game two)

Luis Heredia will make his sixth start and seventh appearance. He pitched once in relief, starting the completion of a suspended game. In that outing, Heredia gave up eight runs on seven hits and four walks over 3.2 innings. In his five starts combined, he has allowed just four earned runs in 22 innings. In his last start, Heredia gave up one run over five innings. He has a .228 BAA.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (25-13) @ Auburn (12-27) 4:05pm
Probable Starter: Chad Kuhl (1-1, 0.90)
Yesterday’s Result: Jamestown 3, Williamsport 0

Chad Kuhl will get his sixth start of the season. He has pitched 20 innings, allowing 14 hits, no homers and three walks. Kuhl has 17 strikeouts, an 0.95 GO/AO ratio and a .194 BAA. In his last start, he threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits, no walks and he struck out four batters. He faced Auburn in his second start, allowing one hit and no runs over three innings.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
