Minor League Schedule: Glasnow and Kingham Tonight

It’s an interesting day if all the probables make their starts today. All five of them were drafted in the top ten rounds by the Pirates. Jamestown, West Virginia and Bradenton all had the day off yesterday. Indianapolis in now on their All-Star break and they resume play Thursday. Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis was off yesterday

Indianapolis is now on their All-Star break. They will resume play on Thursday. Indianapolis is in first place in their division, with a 13 game lead. They have a 33-18 home record and their 28-20 road record is the best in the International League.

AA: Altoona (42-53) vs Bowie (50-45) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Nick Kingham (2-2, 3.41)
Yesterday’s Result: Bowie 3, Altoona 2

Nick Kingham will make his seventh appearance for Altoona tonight, sixth as a starter. He made 13 starts for Bradenton this season, going 6-3, 3.09 in 70 innings, with 75 strikeouts. Kingham threw six innings in his last start, allowing one run on six hits, two walks and he had four strikeouts. He started against Bowie on 6/21 and got his hard, giving up five runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings. During that game, he allowed the only homer he has given up since joining Altoona.

High-A: Bradenton (32-60 overall, 6-18 2nd half) vs Clearwater (46-43) 6:30pm 
Probable starter:  Zack Dodson (1-7, 5.54)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton was off yesterday

Zack Dodson will get his 14th appearances of the season, 13th as a starter. He has pitched 65 innings this year, allowing 75 hits, nine homers and 26 walks. Dodson has 29 strikeouts, a 1.06 GO/AO ratio and a .281 BAA. He is holding left-handed batters to a .237 average. In his last start, Dodson went 4.1 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and four walks. In his last nine games combined, he has recorded just 13 strikeouts.

Low-A: West Virginia (49-44 overall, 12-11 2nd half) vs Savannah (52-38) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Tyler Glasnow (5-2, 2.48)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia was off yesterday

Tyler Glasnow will make his 18th start of the season today. He has thrown a total of 76.1 innings, allowing 40 hits, seven homers and 43 walks. He has 110 strikeouts, a 0.93 GO/AO ratio and a .153 BAA. In his last start, he threw six shutout innings, giving up three hits, one walk and he struck out seven batters. It was the first time in his pro career that he pitched at least six innings. Glasnow is second in the SAL in strikeouts, trailing CJ Edwards of Hickory by three. He also ranks sixth in the league with a 1.09 WHIP.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (17-11) vs Connecticut (11-17) 7:05pm
Probable Starter: Chad Kuhl (0-0, 0.00)
Yesterday’s Result: Jamestown was off yesterday

Chad Kuhl will make his fourth start of the season tonight. He has thrown ten shutout innings this year, allowing five hits, three walks and he has seven strikeouts. In his last start, he gave up three hits and a walk. In each of his first two starts, Kuhl allowed one hit and one walk in three innings.

Rookie:  GCL Pirates (11-10) vs GCL Yankees2 (11-11) 12:00pm
Probable Starter:  Jon Sandfort (1-0, 3.27)
Yesterday’s Result: Pirates 6, Astros 3

No starter has been named for the GCL Pirates today. Jon Sandfort could possibly make his fourth appearance if the rotation remained the same as last time through. In his last start five days ago, Sandfort gave up four runs on three hits and three walks in four innings. In his first two games combined, he threw seven shutout innings, allowing two hits, no walks and he struck out nine batters.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions.
