Minor League Schedule: Glasnow Looks To End First Half Strong

Tyler Glasnow makes his last start before the All-Star break, trying to finish off his great first half on a high note. Altoona was rained out yesterday against New Britain. The two teams play again two weeks from now in Altoona, the last time they meet this season. Bradenton is on their All-Star break. They will resume play on Monday. Probable starter: Andy Oliver (3-2, 3.27)
Yesterday’s Result: Durham 10, Indianapolis 7

Andy Oliver will make his 14th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 66 innings, allowing 47 hits, three homers and 57 walks. Oliver has 72 strikeouts, a 1.24 GO/AO ratio and a .200 BAA. He ranks second in the league in strikeouts, trailing the leader by just four. In walks, he has a healthy lead over the second place pitcher, who has issued 40 free passes. In his last start, Oliver gave up five runs on five hits and six walks in 3.1 innings. He has walked exactly six batters in five of his last six starts.

Probable starter: Casey Sadler (6-4, 3.20)

Casey Sadler will make his 14th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 81.2 innings, giving up 74 hits, seven homers and twenty walks. He has 47 strikeouts, a 1.83 GO/AO ratio and a .247 BAA. In his last start, Sadler gave up one earned run on five hits and a walk over six innings. In seven road starts, he is 5-0, 2.42 in 44.2 innings, with a .217 BAA. He is the organization’s leader in innings pitched.

The Marauders are now on their All-Star break. They are in last place in their division, 17.5 games behind first place Fort Myers. When they return to action on Monday, they will play three games on the road against Jupiter, three at home against Charlotte and then go back on the road for six games. They will play 17 straight days without a day off. As of right now, Alen Hanson will be the team’s only representative in the All-Star game. Both Gregory Polanco and Nick Kingham were selected, but they have been promoted to Altoona.

Tyler Glasnow will make his 13th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 52.1 innings, allowing 23 hits, five homers and 35 walks. Glasnow has 80 strikeouts, an 0.92 GO/AO ratio and a .131 BAA. In 80 AB’s against left-handed batters, he is holding them to a .125 average, with 41 strikeouts. In his last start, he allowed three hits(or more) for just the third time all season. Glasnow threw 4.2 shutout innings before reaching his pitch count. He will be one of six players to represent West Virginia in the South Atlantic League All-Star game next Tuesday.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
