Game Notes: Gerrit Cole had his best start of the year. It was the second time he went seven innings, and the third start in a row that he’s gone 6+ innings. A big positive is that Cole only walked two batters, and has four walks in 13 innings in his last two starts. Control has been a problem for him this year, with 15 walks in his first 23.1 innings. Tonight he threw 97 pitches with 68 strikes. Vic Black picked up his ninth save, throwing a perfect inning in the bottom of the 11th. Brett Carroll picked up his fourth homer of the year.

Game Notes: Stolmy Pimentel had given up three runs in 36.1 innings heading into this start. He dealt with some control issues tonight, and had what was easily his worst start of the year. On the bright side, Pimentel did hit as high as 98 MPH, and was hitting 97 MPH a few times. Click here for John Eshleman’s report on the game.

Game Notes: Matt Benedict has been giving up a lot of runs lately along with a lot of hits. Tonight he gave up a lot of hits, but limited the damage through six innings. He threw 90 pitches, with 62 strikes, and had a 6:3 GO/AO ratio. Alen Hanson had his second straight multi-hit game. Jose Osuna also picked up his second straight multi-hit game.
A: WEST VIRGINIA POWER

Game Notes: Orlando Castro had another strong start for West Virginia. On the season he has a 1.58 ERA in 40 innings, with a 35:2 K/BB ratio. He gave up a solo homer in the seventh inning, giving Lexington the go-ahead run. Dilson Herrera hit his second homer of the year. Stetson Allie is now hitting for a .339/.427/.603 line. His numbers are coming back to earth a bit, but they’re still up there. One big positive is that he has seven walks in his last seven games, and only five strikeouts in 19 at-bats during that span.
