The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded infielder Brian Friday to the Atlanta Braves for outfielder Christian Marrero. Friday once looked like the shortstop of the future in Pittsburgh, with a .287/.365/.387 line in 341 at-bats in high-A in 2008, at the age of 22. He has since struggled at the plate, and has become more of an organizational player.
Marrero has split time this year between Double-A and Triple-A. In 194 at-bats in Triple-A, he has a .247/.347/.392 line. He will likely serve as organizational depth for Indianapolis, since the Pirates have Jose Tabata, Gorkys Hernandez, and Brandon Boggs spending time in the outfield in Triple-A.
