Pirates Agree to Terms With Barrett Barnes

UPDATE 2:45 PM: Barnes received $1 M, according to Lacefield. That’s $136,400 under slot for the 45th overall pick. The Pirates now have $225,200 to spend on over-slot picks.

2:42 PM: The Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to terms with compensation round pick Barrett Barnes, according to Scott Lacefield, Associate Director of Texas Tech Baseball and Football. Barnes, a center fielder with power, was taken with the 45th overall pick in the draft, and was rated 41st overall by Baseball America. He was recently ranked as the 19th best prospect in the system in our mid-season top 20 update.

No word yet on where Barnes will start his career, or how much he signed for. The Draft Pick Signing Tracker has been updated with the move.

  • Seems like a signability pick, which I have no problem with due to the Appel situation. What’s his potential?

    • according to BA, power and fielding potential are above average. hitting wise….ehh. But he’s young and raw, so….I like the pick.

      • to clarify, they’re not sure he’s gonna be a high average hitter. but his power will ‘play’ even if he moves to a corner.

  • nice, get him in a lineup!
