Minor League Schedule: 5/1/12

West Virginia is off today. When they resume play on Wednesday, they will play a doubleheader in Asheville with two top twenty prospects on the mound, Zack Dodson and Nick Kingham. A full recap of yesterday’s games can be found here.

Brandon Cumpton has won his last two starts

Triple-A: Indianapolis (12-11) @ Norfolk (9-14) 7:15pm
Probable starter: Daniel Cabrera (0-1 1.50 with Bradenton)

Daniel Cabrera will make his first appearances with Indianapolis tonight. He pitched one time for Bradenton this year, going six innings on 4/26, allowing one run on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Cabrera was signed as a minor league free agent after not pitching during the 2011 season. He last pitched in the majors in 2009 when he went 0-6 6.00 in 51 innings.

Double-A: Altoona (8-14) @ Erie (10-12) 6:35pm
Probable starter: Brandon Cumpton (2-2 3.60)

Brandon Cumpton will make his fifth start of the season tonight. In his last start on 4/26 he went a season long 7 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts. In 25 innings this season, he has given up 23 hits, five walks and has struck out twelve batters. His first start this season was at home against today’s opponent, Erie. Brandon gave up five runs that day in 4.1 innings.  In his only road start this year, he gave up just one run in seven innings against Richmond.

High-A: Bradenton (11-13) VS Charlotte (11-13) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Eliecer Navarro(0-1 1.47)

Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 8 Jupiter 0

Bradenton currently sits tied for second place, nine games behind St Lucie in the first half standings. Navarro will get his first start of the season tonight. In seven relief appearances, he has pitched 18.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on 14 hits, two walks and he has struck out 14.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
