Minor League Schedule: 4/28/12

Altoona plays an early afternoon game today. Tim Williams will be in Durham covering the Indianapolis game tonight. West Virginia is facing strong pitching in Adam Conley today, a 2011 2nd round pick, who has a 0.90 ERA with 23 strikeouts and just nine hits allowed in 20 innings this year. Rudy Owens pitched 7 shutout innings his last start

Probable starter: Rudy Owens (0-0 2.84)

Rudy Owens will be making his fourth start of the season tonight. In 19 innings pitched this season, he has yet to walk a batter. In his last start on 4/22, he pitched seven scoreless innings on the road against Louisville. He gave up just two hits and struck out five batters. Rudy has allowed 13 hits and struck out 13 batters this year. Opposing batters are hitting .186 against him and right-handed batters are hitting just .173

Double-A: Altoona (8-11) @ Akron (12-6) 1:05pm
Probable starter: Kris Johnson (0-0 1.59)

Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 1 Akron 2

Kris Johnson will be making his first start of the season for Altoona. He started the Wednesday day game for Indianapolis but pitched just two innings, throwing 42 total pitches. He has pitched a total of 10.1 innings between Altoona and Indy, allowing one run on nine hits, five walks and he struck out eight. Johnson spent six years in the Red Sox organization, topping out at AAA before signing with the Pirates this past off-season.

High-A: Bradenton (8-12) @ Jupiter (9-12) 6:35pm
Probable starter: Colton Cain (1-1 3.57)

Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 9 Charlotte 2

Colton Cain will be making his fifth start of the season tonight. Twice in his previous starts he has gone five innings, both times allowing just two hits in the game. In 17.2 total innings, he has given up ten runs(seven earned) on 14 hits, eight walks and he has struck out thirteen. Batters are hitting .215 against him overall and right-handed hitters are batting .205 with ten strikeouts.

Low-A: West Virginia (7-14) VS Greensboro (14-7) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Matt Benedict (1-1 0.84)

Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 2 Savannah 6

Matt Benedict will be making his fifth start of the season tonight. In three of his four outings this year, he has not allow an earned run. On 4/7 he struck out a season high seven batters against Hagerstown. Since walking three hitters in his first start, he has issued just two walks in the last three outings, covering 16.2 innings. Matt has given up 19 hits and struck out 18 batters in 21.1 innings.
