Minor League Schedule: 4/25/12

Both Indianapolis and West Virginia will be playing late morning games today. Top prospect in the system, Gerrit Cole, will get the fourth start of his career. He has a 13.5 K/9 rate so far on the season. Indianapolis has yet to name a starter. We will update this post when one is named. A full recap of yesterday’s games can be found here.

Gerrit Cole has struck out seven batters twice this year

Triple-A: Indianapolis (8-10) VS Louisville (7-13)  11:05am
Probable starter: Kris Johnson (0-0 0.00)

Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 5 Louisville 3

Kris Johnson will make the start for Indianapolis this morning. He’s been moving back and forth between the Altoona and Indianapolis rosters the last few weeks. The left hander has pitched 2.2 shutout innings in Triple-A, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out two. In his career at Triple-A, he has a 6.03 ERA in 252.1 innings, mostly as a starter.

Double-A: Altoona (7-9) VS Harrisburg (12-6) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Nate Baker (2-1 3.29)

Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 1 Harrisburg 5

Nate Baker will be making his fourth start of the season tonight. After two strong outings, he faltered in his last start, allowing five runs in 2.2 innings. He has given up just eight hits in 13.2 innings, and twice held his opponents to only two base hits in a game. Nate has given up nine walks, while striking out eight. Batters are hitting .174 against him, right-handed hitters are batting .189 against the lefty Baker. Nate threw six shutout innings on 4/13 against Richmond.

High-A: Bradenton (8-10) @ Charlotte (9-9) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Gerrit Cole (0-0 5.25)

Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 1 Jupiter 7

Gerrit Cole will get the fourth start of his professional career tonight. In his last start on 4/20 against Fort Myers, he reached the five inning mark for the first time. Cole struck out seven batters, matching his high total which also occurred during his first start. In 12 innings this year, he has recorded 18 strikeouts. Cole has allowed 13 hits so far, three have been home runs.

Low-A: West Virginia (5-13) VS Savannah (11-8) 11:05am
Probable starter: Zac Fuesser (0-0 3.27)

Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 5 Savannah 14

Zac Fuesser will be making his fourth start of the season this morning. After allowing three runs in three innings during his first start, Zac has allowed just one earned run in his next two starts combined. On 4/19 against Charleston, he threw four scoreless innings. Batters are hitting just .162 against him, although he has issued ten walks already in 11 innings.
