Heading to Spring Training

Published:

Tomorrow morning I leave for Bradenton, Florida on my way to Pirates’ Spring Training.  If my math is correct, I’ll be the 4th member of the Pirates Prospects crew down there.  I believe that will entitle us to a bulk discount at Mixon’s.

I’ll be heading down with two “day job” work colleagues and we’ll be taking in the major-league games at McKechnie on Friday and Saturday, plus heading over to Pirate City to check out the minor leaguers, as well.

There’s a lot of guys I’m interested in seeing on the prospect side.  Of course there’s the usual suspects of Cole, Taillon, Bell, and Marte, but I’m very intrigued by the news that Luis Heredia is now 6′-7″ and throwing 97 mph as a 17 year old.  I’d like to get a preview look at Robbie Grossman before his placement to Altoona in a month.  I’m curious to see McPherson’s offspeed pitches to get a feel for his true ceiling.  I’d also like to see the Jose Osuna Experience in person.

My colleagues and I will be squeezing in some golf at River Run, as well.  Any restaurant suggestions will be appreciated in the comments, as well as any players you would like me to focus on seeing.
