Day Six of Spring Training

Happy first official full squad day. The Pirates position players were scheduled to report by Thursday, as today is the first full team workout. Anderson Hernandez, who was having visa issues,was delayed in getting to Pirate City but is scheduled to report today.

— Pitchers today will throw live batting practice to the hitters for the first time this spring. They will pitch two innings, 15 pitches per inning, 35 pitches max. Charlie Morton is not scheduled at this time for BP. Those scheduled to pitch today are:

Black Team:

Group 1 (Live BP Field #1): James McDonald, Joel Hanrahan –> Andrew McCutchen, Jose Tabata, Alex Presley

Group 2 (Cage): Tony Watson, Daniel McCutchen –> Clint Barmes, Neil Walker

Group 3 (Live BP Field #2): Brad Lincoln, Evan Meek –> Pedro Alvarez, Garrett Jones, Casey McGehee

Group 4 (Cage): Doug Slaten, Chris Leroux –> Nate McLouth, Anderson Hernandez

Gold Team:

Group 1 (Live BP Field #3): Erik Bedard, Juan Cruz –> Nick Evans, Brandon Boggs, Yamaico Navarro

Group 2 (Cage): Shairon Martis, Daniel Cabrera –> Jordy Mercer, Jeff Clement, Josh Harrison

Group 3 (Live BP Field #4) Jo-Jo Reyes, Chris Resop –> Matt Hague, Starling Marte

— Pirates are scheduled to work on conditioning, throwing programs, bunt plays, base hit bunts, bunts, slug bunts, etc. today.

— In case you missed it, Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan was on MLB Network’s Intentional Talk yesterday. Here is the video.

— On field 1, Pedro Alvarez and Jake Fox alternated at third base; Garrett Jones and Casey McGehee at first; and Neil Walker at second. Worked on drills, grounders, double plays etc.

On field 4, Jeff Clement and Nick Evans were at first; Matt Hague at third; Yamaico Navarro and Jordy Mercer at second; Josh Harrison, Chase d’Arnaud at short.

McGehee, Jones and Fox worked on picks at first base.

— Outfielders took balls off the center field wall and caught pop ups.

— Pirates Manger Clint Hurdle on President Frank Coonelly DUI:

Bob [Nutting] made a statement, an organizational statement. We all stand behind him. We support Frank moving forward.
