The Mesa Solar Sox lost 8-7 to Scottsdale after a walk off homer from Bryce Harper off of Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Jeff Inman. Inman, pitching in his second game in three days, came on to get the save for Mesa in the bottom of the ninth, up 7-5. He gave up a lead off single to Mike Trout, then gave up a one out single two batters later, bringing Harper to the plate as the winning run. After a wild pitch allowed runners to advance in to scoring position, Inman gave up the three run homer to Harper on a shot to center field.
Nathan Baker pitched earlier in the day, and was in line for the win. Baker threw an inning, allowing two runs on three hits. Mesa scored three runs in the top half of the next inning, giving them a 7-5 lead, and putting Baker as the pitcher of record. Michael Colla also pitched today, throwing two shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.
Jarek Cunningham was the only Pirates hitter today, starting as the designated hitter. Cunningham went 2-for-4 with a run scored, raising his average to .268 on the season.
Mesa plays Peoria tomorrow at 3:35 PM EST.
