Pirates Sign 18th Round Pick Josh Poytress

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced the signings of 18th round pick Josh Poytress and 32nd round pick David Jagoditsh.  We already knew about Jagoditsh, as we reported on Saturday that he had agreed to terms.

Poytress, a left handed pitcher, was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the 16th round out of high school, but chose to go to Fresno State.  He sits in the upper 80s with his fastball, and tops out at 92.  He also throws a slider and a changeup, with improved command this year.  He put up his best results in his junior year, with improved control being a big factor.

The Draft Pick Signing Tracker is updated with the move.  The Pirates have now signed 13 players.
