Kyle McPherson Promoted to Altoona

McPherson has been promoted to Altoona.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted right handed pitching prospect Kyle McPherson to Altoona, according to Cory Giger of the Altoona Mirror.  Giger notes that McPherson will make his debut on Friday.

McPherson had a great year with the Bradenton Marauders, with a 2.89 ERA in 71.2 innings, along with a 60:6 K/BB ratio.  This follows a year where he posted a 3.59 ERA in 117.2 innings in West Virginia, with a 124:31 K/BB ratio.  McPherson was added to the 40-man roster over the off-season.  The promotion will give him three months at the AA level, which means if he can continue putting up the same dominant numbers he’s been putting up in the lower levels, he might have a shot at AAA to start 2012, and maybe even Pittsburgh later in the year.
