The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that catcher Dusty Brown and left handed pitcher Aaron Thompson have each cleared waivers. Brown was designated for assignment last week when Eric Fryer was added to the 40-man roster and called up to the majors. Thompson was designated for assignment to clear a spot for Chase d’Arnaud at the end of last week.
Brown has been assigned to AAA Indianapolis, while Thompson has been assigned to Altoona, where he was playing prior to being removed from the 40-man roster. So far this year, Thompson has a 4.97 ERA in 67 innings at the AA level, with a 43:18 K/BB ratio. He got off to a hot start, but struggled after April, and has since been removed from the Altoona rotation.
