Chris Snyder to the DL, Wyatt Toregas Called Up

Published:

Snyder hits the DL with a back injury.

As expected, the Pittsburgh Pirates have placed Chris Snyder on the 15-day disabled list, and have purchased the contract of catcher Wyatt Toregas from AAA.  Earlier today we heard that Toregas had been removed from the Indianapolis roster, replaced by Kris Watts.

The presence of Toregas as the backup to Dusty Brown might not last long.  There has been some speculation that the Pirates could try to acquire Jake Fox, who will be waived by the Baltimore Orioles.  The Pirates were interested in Fox over the off-season, and he might end up being a better emergency backup than Toregas, who was 1-for-29 at the plate in Indianapolis this year.

The 25-man roster and 40-man roster pages have been updated.  No corresponding move was needed for Toregas, since there was already an open spot on the roster.
