Pirates Winter League Recap: 12/5-12/12

The stats pages for the winter leagues have been updated.  Click on the league name to see all of the stats.  Here are the key performers from the past week:

Venezuelan Winter League

-Ronny Cedeno: 6-for-21, 1 3B, 2 SB

-Jose Tabata made his debut this week, going 5-for-11, with 1 2B, 7 BB, and 2 SB.

-Anthony Claggett: 10.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

-Fernando Nieve: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K

-Jose Ascanio made his debut this week, pitching three shutout innings, allowing three hits, no walks, and striking out one.

Dominican Winter League

-Pedro Ciriaco: 4-for-10, 1 2B

-Cesar Valdez was added to the tracker.  So far this season he has a 4.31 ERA in 39.2 innings, with a 23:12 K/BB ratio.

Misc. Pirates Winter Leagues

-Rogelios Noris: 5-for-19, 1 2B

-Matt Hague was added to the tracker, playing in the Mexican Pacific League. He went 2-for-17 in his first week.

Tim started Pirates Prospects in 2009 from his home in Virginia, which was 40 minutes from where Pedro Alvarez made his pro debut in Lynchburg. That year, the Lynchburg Hillcats won the Carolina League championship, and Pirates Prospects was born from Tim's reporting along the way. The site has grown over the years to include many more writers, and Tim has gone on to become a credentialed MLB reporter, producing Pirates Prospects each year, and will publish his 11th Prospect Guide this offseason. He has also served as the Pittsburgh Pirates correspondent for Baseball America since 2019. Behind the scenes, Tim is an avid music lover, and most of the money he gets paid to run this site goes to vinyl records.
