Game 144: Dickey Tosses Complete Game

R.A. Dickey tossed a complete game and carried a shutout into the ninth inning. Zach Duke was hit very, very hard.

Angel Pagan drove in three runs in the first two innings. Carlos Beltran and Nick Evans hit solo homers in the third inning. And Beltran hit a two run double as part of a three run fourth inning.

The Pirates didn’t get on the board until Pedro Ciriaco tripled leading off the ninth. He scored on a ground ball out from John Bowker.

Duke got ten outs and gave up eight runs (seven earned). He gave up nine hits. Dickey gave up five hits and three walks over his nine frames.

The Good
Garrett Jones had two hits.

Welcome, Chris Leroux. He tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

The bullpen allowed just one run in 4-2/3 innings.

Duke came into the game with a 4-1 record and a sub-3.00 ERA in his career against NYM. Dickey had no decisions in two prior career appearances against Pittsburgh.

Ruben Tejada came into the series with just five hits in September. He has four hits in the series.

This was the first time all year that Beltran drove in more than two runs.
