New Faces, Same Result: Tides Wash Out Indians

Published:

The only Indians’ run scored in the 3rd inning. Once again the Indians got their lead-off batter on base — C Luke Carlin doubled into right field. 2B Brian Friday dropped a sacrifice bunt that moved Carlin to third base, and Kevin Melillo brought him in with a sacrifice fly.

The only other hit by the Indians was Brandon Moss’ second hit, which came in the top of the 9th. New Indian SS Pedro Ciriaco struck out to start the inning, then Alex Presley walked. Moss singled into right field, moving Presley to third base. Two strikeouts, to Ryan Doumit and 3B Jim Negrych, ended the inning without a run scoring.

Derek Hankins relieved Mike Crotta to pitch the bottom of the 8th. He gave up a triple to CF Matt Angle and walked SS Robert Andino, but a pop up and a fly out got him out of that jam without letting the Tides score again.

Pedro Ciriaco went 0-for-4 in his Indians’ debut, and Ryan Doumit did the same in his first rehab game with the Indians.

Indians’ Hitting Gems of the Game: Brandon Moss, hitting again. No homers tonight, but he was the only one with more than one hit.

Indians’ Defensive Gem of the Game: After giving up runs in the 2nd and 4th, Mike Crotta shut down the Tides’ bats with three hitless and scoreless innings.

NOTES:

Ryan Doumit will be with the Indians on this rehab assignment for at least a few days. The Pirates want him to get some work in both in the outfield and behind the plate. He is eligible to come off the Disabled List on Friday.

C Jason Jaramillo was optioned back to Indianapolis, after the arrival of C Chris Snyder in Pittsburgh.

OF Brandon Jones, who was with the Indians earlier this season, was traded from the Pirates’ organization to the Detroit organization, where he is expected to join the AA Erie SeaWolves.

1B/OF Steve Pearce is scheduled to have knee surgery this week. That injection he had a few weeks ago did not help like he and the Pirates had hoped it would.
