Draft day – Pirates select Tony Sanchez in first round

The amateur draft kicks off tonight at 6:00, with the Pirates slated to pick fourth overall. I don’t have much time for a preview of the draft, but I wanted to check in with a quick post. Nobody seems to have any clue as to who the Pirates will select in the first round, although some reports have them taking Boston College catcher Tony Sanchez. Most would agree that selecting Sanchez would be a pretty big reach, and it would undoubtedly cause more criticism from the fan base.

I probably won’t be able to check in at all for the rest of the day, but I will try to comment on my Twitter page at some point.

UPDATE (6:50 PM): It is official. Pirates take Sanchez with the fourth pick. We will have to draft very well the rest of the way for me to approve of that pick.

I don’t think Sanchez was a good choice for us. I read this story that said the same thing, they make a good point about how this is hypocritical for Huntginton to do this after his McLouth move.
