Brett Lorin Video Recap

Published:

Lorin had a strong outing against the Hagerstown Suns to wrap up his injury plagued 2010 season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired right handed pitcher Brett Lorin from the Seattle Mariners in 2009, as part of a five player return for Jack Wilson and Ian Snell.  At the time, the 22 year old Lorin had a 2.44 ERA in 88.2 innings in low-A, with an 8.8 K/9 and a 2.5 BB/9 ratio.  He remained in low-A after going to the Pirates, with a 1.57 ERA in 34.1 innings, along with a 7.6 K/9, and a 2.6 BB/9 ratio.  Lorin was injured for most of the 2010 season, and returned to low-A for 41.2 innings at the end of the year, mostly working with his fastball.  He combined for a 5.18 ERA in 41.2 innings, with a 6.9 K/9 and a 1.9 BB/9 ratio.

I saw Lorin pitch in September against the Hagerstown Suns, which was the final game of the season for West Virginia.  Lorin pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out two.  He was going up against Sammy Solis, the first pick in the 2010 second round, taken one spot before Stetson Allie.  Below is video from the game, with Lorin going up against top Washington Nationals prospects Eury Perez, Rick Hague, and J.P. Ramirez.
