The Pittsburgh Pirates have made a few roster moves ahead of Monday’s game, which were expected after the results of Sunday’s game.

Joey Bart was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. Bart left Sunday’s game in the first inning after landing hard on first base trying to beat out a ground ball. To replace Bart on the roster, the Pirates have recalled Henry Davis.

This will be the third appearance for Davis in the majors this season. The former first overall pick has combined to hit .153/.267/.235 in his previous time at the big league level. That came with a 39.2% strikeout rate.

Davis has performed better in Triple-A, and lately has done so while cutting down on the strikeouts. Since the All-Star break, he’s batting .324/.385/.486 with a 16.1% strikeout rate with Indianapolis. He’s reached base safely in his last 12 games, with hits in ten of those games, including two doubles and two homers. During that two-plus week span, he’s hitting .347/.429/.510, while maintaining the 16% strikeout rate, and seeing his walk rate rise to 12.5%.

The Pirates also activated Nick Gonzales off the injured list. Gonzales played a full game at second base yesterday in Indianapolis, and had a hit in each of his four rehab appearances.

To make room for Gonzales, the Pirates have designated Jake Woodford for assignment. Woodford had been serving as a rotation depth option, putting up a 6.95 ERA in 22 innings of work with the Pirates. The move comes ahead of the likely return of Jared Jones tomorrow. The Pirates will need to make another move at that point, likely sending a position player down to make room for Jones.

The 40-man roster currently sits at 39.
