Watch: Jase Bowen Breaks Down a Seven Pitch Triple

Published:

GREENSBORO, NC – Jase Bowen spent most of the 2022 season in Single-A Bradenton, where he posted an .805 OPS while repeating the level.

Bowen was promoted to High-A Greensboro, and has a .535 OPS through his first 27 games. He’s shown good plate patience and improved power this year, though the results at the higher level haven’t been consistent yet.

While watching him in Greensboro earlier this month, there was an at-bat on September 3rd that stood out. In this at-bat, Bowen battled back from an 0-2 count to line a triple to left-center field. Here was the full at-bat.

The next day, I asked Bowen what was on his mind as he fought back for the hit.

PITCH ONE: STRIKE ONE (0-1)

Bowen: The first pitch, I was just trying to be on time for the fastball, and the guy was liking his fastball. He had some good ride on it. I was trying to see it down. It got a little above my barrel and I fouled it off.

PITCH TWO: STRIKE TWO (0-2)

Bowen: The second pitch, I was thinking the same thing, and I chased one up here. It went a little higher than I thought. I had to kind of calm myself down.

PITCH THREE: BALL ONE (1-2)

Bowen: Third pitch, I had a failure to do the same thing and luckily I took this one.

PITCH FOUR: BALL TWO (2-2)

Bowen: He gave me a slider here and I took it.

PITCH FIVE: FOUL (2-2)

Bowen: I committed to the fastball, and it was a slider, which I fouled off to the right side, trying to fight and stay true.

PITCH SIX: FOUL (2-2)

Bowen: I knew he wanted to throw the fastball at me, and just try to be on time for it and react to off-speed.

PITCH SEVEN: TRIPLE

Bowen: I just continued to trust what was going to happen, and stay on time for a fastball into the middle of the field. His slider was working okay for him, it was seeing the zone, so I figured he would try to go back to his best pitch, and I happened to connect with it.
