Pirates Game Discussion: Pirates 5, Dodgers 3

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates (12-17) take on the Los Angeles Dodgers (20-8) in the finale of a three-game series at PNC Park on Wednesday afternoon at 12:35 PM. Dillon Peters (3-1, 2.16) will be on the mound for the Pirates, going up against 24-year-old right-hander Ryan Pepiot, making his MLB debut. He had a 2.05 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 26.1 innings in Triple-A this season. He’s considered to be a top 100 prospect.

The Wednesday injury updates from the Pirates noted that Blake Cederlind had a setback in his recovery due to forearm pain and he’s not throwing for 4-5 days. Quinn Priester hasn’t had a setback from his oblique injury recovery, but there’s some delivery tweaks going on to help him avoid future injuries, which has delayed his return. Jake Marisnick will have UCL surgery. No timetable for his return yet.

Cam Alldred is on his way to the Pirates. Beau Sulser optioned, Perez to 60.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
