This week’s article drop is a good one. It will go up at the end of the game for those who are still awake. It will also be there tomorrow and all week for those who fall asleep.

JimEastTennessee

Weeellll, guess I wait ’til tomorrow, ‘Night All!

AdministrativeSky236

Looking forward to it as always!

docdon385

Granted this game was ugly except for the early home runs, but reading some of the comments would lead one to think they lost. Hey the Pirates won and we learned a lot. Castro’s not a shortstop, Michael Perez can actually hit a baseball (well sort of), a 27 mil first baseman makes errors and the beloved and over paid Dodgers are beatable at least sometimes. Celebrate or at least lighten up.

jon6er

Well how’s this for gaiety you’ve just lost your closer and only stopper for the rest of the series in a attempt to win a game that in the end will prove meaningless. And they also have lost multiple chances to see what they have in Del Los Santos. We already knew Castro has huge holes in his game and Perez has a track record of an occasional hit. I did learn though that Marcano almost threw out Trea Turner at second but lost the chance when Diego didn’t make the pick and that throw was impressive. I also learned that Derek Shelton is possibly the most overmatched manager in the history of the game especially considering many of the old time managers were drunk while they were managing.

PirateRican21

Just watched Sport Center for the first time in years, the game highlights begins with the Betts HR….. it that I needed reminders, but yeah this is what I don’t bother.

jon6er

ESPN is where you go if you want to hear so called “sports experts” explain their thoughts by screaming like WWE wrestlers, lol.

docdon385

Seldom watch ESPN unless it has a game on, but even then the mute button comes in handy. For a second there I thought you were describing Greg Brown but you’d need to add telling stupid jokes and off topic stories then laughing for 30 seconds at his own brilliance. Where’s the remote?

jon6er

Pirates are unwatchable even when they win unless one considers watching Shelton trying to ruin one of the few actual major league players on the team worth watching.

MWT

Bednar’s eventual Tommy John surgery is going to be a depressing day. Just because he CAN pitch multiple innings, doesn’t mean he should do it regularly. If the front office views him as a primer closer/franchise face, they’d do right by him and acquire him some help.

1979andCounting

We just took down Rogers and Kimbrell in past 3 games. I mean there’s something going on here……..

GAME OF THE YEAR! Adrenaline flowing!

PiratePrimate

Bednar just answers Robbie, “Fuck! Exciting!”

1979andCounting

Raise that f—–r!

waitwhat

BEDNAR will not be denied.

phieralph

RAISE IT!!!!

Wilbur Miller

Bednar comes through in the end, no surprise, but FIFTY pitches??

mikeschalke

He’s done till the weekend.

phieralph

Ah, he had it all the way. I like it. Heavy departure from playing cute with pitchers. Is it arguably reckless? Yeah. But I don’t trust anybody else in that situation.

Wilbur Miller

40 pitches for Bednar. Does this seem to anybody like a very bad idea?

Wilbur Miller

I don’t imagine it’s occurred to anybody with the Pirates that Bednar pitching so much says more about the rest of the bullpen than it does about Bednar.

PiratePrimate

It also says something about his manager

Wilbur Miller

I don’t see much to learn there. He’s already shown himself to be incompetent.

All the rest of the time, he happily throws games away in order to have teaching moments. But he’ll risk one of the team’s few real major leaguers to win one here and there. It’s like the only time he gives a shit is when there’s a chance to overuse Bednar.

TNBucs

That was my first thought when reading the game recap. Bednar had only pitched once on the road trip and had only thrown 12 pitches, but to let your best pitcher throw 50 when he hadn’t thrown more than 29 in a game seems irresponsible. As hard as it would have been, he shouldn’t have let Bednar come out for the 9th. It’s not like we’re in a pennant race this season.

phieralph

Oh boy.

Freddie Freeman

Treat Turner

phieralph

Does anyone else have the Dodgers feed on? Announcer is literally doing these deep Tay Monday breaths straight into the mic every 10 seconds. Very strange.

1979andCounting

If you went to sleep, you missed can instant classic!!

TNBucs

Would have loved to have seen last night’s ending and Saturday night’s, but either would have cost me the next day.

PirateRican21

Didn’t go to sleep, but raised the white flag and started to watch The Office reruns……..

phieralph

THE GODS!!

WE HAVE BEEN CHOSEN!!

robertkasperski

Welp a good time for Perez to finally get a hit!

tedwins

Good job Perez👍, also Castillo has had solid game

TNBucs

Castillo just seems like a solid all-around player. He may not stand out often but does everything well. That’s one thing that was frustrating when he wasn’t playing regularly.

bscat

He’ll need to learn to use the whole field. He pulls off of outside pitches. Solid otherwise.

PirateRican21

I blame the home run streak he had during ST, he needs to go back to what he is, a hi contact gap to gap guy, the power will not be elite, but serviceable.

Wilbur Miller

Chang must not be much use, seeing as how .093 Perez is batting.

TNBucs

Shelton is not really capable of thinking past the lefty vs. righty matchup, is he? In his defense, though, that would have been a tough position to put a player in for their first game with a new team.

PiratePrimate

Why is Perez batting?

robertkasperski

So he could single and knock in Castillo!

1979andCounting

Reynolds runs bad route allowing J. Turner ball to go to wall instead of a single. Bloop hit to Jack wouldn’t have scored him. Shelton’s right, there’s lack of execution every single game. Offense, base running, pitch location, or defense. Take your pick.

jon6er

I pick managing as a single lack of execution everyday, lol.

PirateRican21

Ok Tim, game is over. Ready to read.

1979andCounting

It’s time Derry goes upstairs for a meeting with BC and demands he brings in a set-up man. This 6-out save shit isn’t going to fly, it’s still only May.

jon6er

Couldn’t he try the closer they brought up from Indy a couple of weeks ago and used once. I think he’s rested!

tedwins

I personaly do not like asking Bednar to get 6 outs as a habit. We should be babying him as a true future asset, to keep or flip…what do I know….

TNBucs

As it turned out, 50 pitches is too many for a guy who hadn’t thrown more than 29 pitches in an outing all season. For his long-term health, I definitely wouldn’t pitch him tonight and probably not tomorrow either, though he had only the single short outing in San Diego.

PiratePrimate

Win or lose, Castro has to play his game in Indianapolis. When he learns to play Big League baseball maybe he can come back.

docdon385

It’s time to stop talking about the Mendoza line when talking about the Pirates. They currently have 8 position players hitting below .200. Mario Mendoza would look like a star on this team. How about initiating the Perez line at .100, although I’m not sure Michael Perez could manage even that. Current Pirate catchers are hitting a combined .076.

bscat

Mendoza’s lifetime BA was .215 . . . just sayin’

1979andCounting

Wouldn’t mind seeing yerry to set up Bednar.

Wilbur Miller

Perez now hitless in 19 ABs, although for him that doesn’t really qualify as a slump.

TNBucs

Good job on the reverse jinx.

docdon385

Castro simply must be better than this if he expects to remain in Pittsburgh.

PiratePrimate

I think he already bought his ticket back to Indy

Wilbur Miller

It’s uncanny how often you can trace a Pirate loss to some stupid decision by Shelton. Hopefully, this won’t be one.

PirateRican21

Peters on this spat is very questionable, first he is a sinker change guy, so not ideal to face a lefty, that’s Banda’s gig with the mid 90s fastball and slider. Back to Peter, he has gotten awfully wild lately not ideal on a slim lead.

patrick_kelly

Good effort out of Thompson tonight. Kinda wished he’d have stayed in for Rios here.

patrick_kelly

Shit…

Wilbur Miller

Castro is turning the TOOTBLAN into an art form.

phieralph

Castro reckless

PiratePrimate

Like he’s playing a softball game at the mental hospital

1979andCounting

Reminds me of Marte.

phieralph

And Polanco.

docdon385

I wish.

1979andCounting

On the base paths, that is.

PirateRican21

I ve seen enough of Castro the starter

PiratePrimate

Minor league move

PiratePrimate

Two hangers, two runs

PiratePrimate

Castillo saved a run

phieralph

Castillo!!!

What a play!!

AdministrativeSky236

Hayes is a star

PirateRican21

Come on Thompson, need another shut out inning. Assuming Keller will follow…..

PirateRican21

Freaking jinx it.

tedwins

Little stumble at the end but fine performance against tough lineup👍

PiratePrimate

Mitch Keller can not be allowed to pitch in this game! I have money on it!

PirateRican21

Was wrong, but was hoping was Banda not Peters….

PirateRican21

He hasn’t pitch in a while….

AdministrativeSky236

Maybe if buehlers pants werent extra shrunk he could have a chance against an elite lineup like ours

1979andCounting

Lol I noticed that as well. Was going to post something like wouldn’t want to wear those in 90 degree heat we had today.

phieralph

We’re unstoppable!

1979andCounting

Omg…..every dodger knows we took 2 out of 3 from them…….and they weren’t having it this series. Yet here we are!! What a great start!

PiratePrimate

Solos are nice when they’re BOMBS

AdministrativeSky236

HUGE doubleplay after the doink by castro

PiratePrimate

One more reason for Castillo instead of Castro at SS

jon6er

If Chang’s in the lineup tomorrow you’ll see VanMetric at second and Marcano on the bench, it’s the Shelton way.

1979andCounting

Four 3-run Hrs in past 5 games…….do I have the right channel on?

Wilbur Miller

Poorly known fact — Three-run dingerz have been known to cure cancer.

PiratePrimate

Three-run Jacks are better than sex

PirateRican21

Ahhh, you’re not doing it right….

PiratePrimate

Sometimes

phieralph

I’m sitting here, watching Marcano in the box thinking : “Huh, not much muscle on this guy. Man, scrawny. Ugh. Another Cole Tucker, I’m sure.”

And then BOP

And that is why I am on the couch.

Bucs'N'Pucks (Jeff Reed)

Idk if Cole Tucker was even fair. Came into May with only 691 OPS and 316 SLG. Then has gone off in May.

1979andCounting

Tucu!! I like this kid alot!

TNBucs

Youngest position player on the active roster and 2nd (to Peguero) youngest position player on the 40-man roster.

1979andCounting

Thank you Adam Frazier. Would love to know who negotiated that trade…..Graves, Sanders, or Ben.

TNBucs

Speaking of Frazier, he struggled some after the trade and he’ll probably never match how well he played leading up to the trade, but he’s having a good season again this year–on pace for a little over 3 fWAR which is coming from good offense and defense.
