I’ll credit Chavis for taking some responsibility after the game. But Shelton? It was all the players need to do this, the players need to do that. No sense that maybe the coaches could share some responsibility.
This team will be behind Cincinnati by end of June. Maybe sooner.
The most maddening thing is all the gloating Shelton did early on when they had some SSS success with how they were handling their pitchers. Maybe wait a little longer next time before you tell us how great you are.
Exactly. It’s a very long season and we know your pitchers suck, Derek. And here we are three weeks later and they now have a worse run differential than Cincinnati. They’re five games up on Cincinnati and with trips to San Diego, LA, Atlanta, and St Louis (14 games) between now and mid June, it could get ugly very quickly.
Shelton’s postgame comments
Tracy-esque. Coaches win, players lose.
Time to break out the paper bags folks even if watching from home. This is just flat out embarrassing and seemingly getting worse by the day.
Oh, it will get much worse. You haven’t seen the fights in the dugout, yet. Just wait until Nickles blames Shelton and the rumors will start as the knives come out. And we haven’t even started to hear the complaints from the Players Union and, hopefully, the MLB, as to Nickles habit of sticking payroll in his pocket instead of on the field. It’s gonna get very ugly, very soon.
That would be more entertaining than this shite.
Apparently this Morel kid might be better than Hayes when he arrives for real.
It’s one at bat against a Pirate pitcher; not exactly hall of fame credentials.
When was the last time the Pirates had a hit and a run in the same game?
Like a dead cat bounce, Dr. Heisenberg?
It’s true, VanMeter hits like his Pop.
This might be the worst major league baseball team I’ve ever watched.
You can watch this clown show?
Hey, watch it, clowns are people too. At least they’re trying to be funny and can sometimes be entertaining. The Pirates are neither. Clowns deserve better than being compared to this mess of a so called baseball team.
Masochism is nothing to make fun of
There’s a reason Boston cut bait w/ Chavis
Yeah, their bullpen had like 4 injuries and they were in first place at trade deadline. Pirates traded LH Austin Davis for Chavis. Win-win.
He’d been up and down and hadn’t played worth a damn for two years.
I’d play Castillo at SS and Chavis at 2B everyday at least until Newman is back.
Chavis turning to blame Castro while letting Contreras get to second seems to capture the essence of the 20-22 Pirates. I’m ready to cut bait on Chavis—you can’t build a culture of winning with guys like that. But the lack of accountability comes from the top, so it doesn’t surprise me to see Chavis think it’s okay to not take his responsibility for his own mistakes.
It wasn’t a good look for Chavis but as Walk noted, that was on Castro.
Overall, I think Chavis has been pretty good. This play was an exception. I think Chavis should be given a shot as the everyday 2B. Enough of JT Riddle Vanmeter.
I had liked Chavis, but that was such a classless and stupid move to publicly call out a teammate while the play was still live. Unless he apologizes later, I’ve lost respect for him.
After watching the replay, the ball was so high that it bounced 12+ feet when it hit the hard IF which gave Chavis no play on force at second. I think that’s where Brownie and Walk mis-called the play. It’s similar to a Baltimore chop at home plate. Nothing Chavis could do waiting for the ball while Contreras took second.
And I didn’t see Chavis calling his teammate out. Apparently both of them lost the ball, just as Walk stated……speculating they exchanged words like “did you see it, I lost it.”
This team is bereft of feck, hap, and accountability. Not easy to love.
Cubs organist just played “Rodolfo the Red-Nosed Reindeer” during Castro’s AB. Mean, but funny.
I gotta say I’m about done following this team this year. It’s disgusting to watch. There’s really nothing to get excited about. Minor leaguers have been disappointing and the big league team is jus embarrassing. No starters and no hitters. Sorry for the negativity but there needs to be some kind of progress and I see none.
Good hops, Yoshi!
But hands of stone
Bad year so far, I knew the big league club will be bad, even historically bad but took solace that Hayes will improve and Reynolds would be great once again plus the minors will be fun, whiffed on all three.
My dad is a huge 76ers fan. He says in the last twenty years of watching, the season the Sixers were historically bad was his favorite. They just played a bunch of young guys and looked to see what worked. They went 10-72… Maybe he’s just a masochist. Maybe I’m just a masochist.
Fugly, and not that hard to not be fugly. Shelton’s team is not having a very good week.
Flashback. Contreras and Will Crowe. A Nightmare.
Javy and Will Craig comes to mind.
Got both guys wrong, but we all remember lol.
Selective memory. I remember the train wreck officer, but not the train…..
Castro was deemed not a SS as early as HI A, and yet here he is, playing SS in the bigs……
Castillo looked pretty solid at SS. I don’t understand Castro replacing him at SS the past few games.
Another characteristic of Shelton-ball—play guys out of position because that seems fun.
Yeah that doesn’t happen with Hayes and Newman plus I really believe Castillo would have taken charge on that play. I know if that ball bounces in front of Hayes he’s looking at the runners not a teammate.
Gotta say, missing Newman big time at SS.
Go to a Pirates game and you get to see a comedy act.
Oh boy.
Shelton-ball
No focus, no accountability.
Keystone Kops time.
New Villain Unlocked.
Volgebach? Because he was the asshole on that play.
Contreras? What did Vogelbach do?
He swiped Contrearas’ mask away after the out call
Did not catch that. You’re right. Feel bad for my guy. he was embarrassed.
I doubt that Cora would’ve sent him there. WTF?
I get it. Momentum. He just legged out a triple. Contreras tries to throw him out in between pitches. F^&# it, send him. It was close. If he had made it, I would’ve lost it. Momentum shift.
Frankly, I’d be worried about a hammy for Vogie on a short sprint home. The guy is built to have an injury like that. Shelton should be in Rabelo’s ear on that one.
Bad send for sure. Take your chances with Chavis.
No matter how bad this all is, it’s awfully funny.
Schwindel and Wisdom killed us and the league last year. Cubs having a major dose of sophomore slump from those two. Both post-prospects……..feels familiar.
Bru still on pace for a Maddux!
But not anymore.
Good move Sheltie now Vogey can leadoff. Love those solo homers hey!
Quite a number of scouts at the Altoona game. We’ve got prospects. A number of teams will be looking to trade solid but expensive vets for a prospect or two. The Pirates have money. If there’s a window with these young players coming up that window better have some solid veteran presence in it. And cheap, aging players are not gonna cut it. Start spending money!
I can’t tell if you’re being facetious or serious. I’ll assume facetious, because the idea that we should trade prospects out of Altoona for “solid but expensive veterans” is a surefire recipe for Chris Archer 2.0.
It’s good to have some pop in that lead off spot
Don’t worry guys Van Meter is leading off!
Getting ready for the game
