Daily Video Rundown: Jared Jones, Anthony Solometo, Matt Fraizer

Published:

Welcome to the Pirates Prospects daily video rundown, where we pull some of the top videos of the Pittsburgh Pirates across the internet.

Player Spotlight

Jared Jones

The Pirates second round pick in 2020, Jones has quickly emerged as one of the most electric players in the system. An aggressive push to Low-A Bradenton in 2021, Jones impressed. The righty struck out 103 batters in 66 innings, the lowest amount needed to top the century mark.

Jones offers an upper-90s fastball, to go along with a curve, slider, and change up. Any one who is a fan of spin rate absolutely loves Jones, as he is one of the best in the minors at doing so.

This is Jones’ start from August 1st, where he pitched six innings of one-run baseball, walking just one and striking out eight batters in the outing. For more, check out our scouting feature on him this week.

Daily Video Rundown

Anthony Solometo

Arguably the top left-handed prep pitcher in the 2021 draft class, Solometo didn’t see any game action after signing last year. Solometo looks every bit of a pitcher, standing at 6’5″, 220 pounds at just 19-years-old.

Solometo has his own signature delivery, one that has been compared to both Madison Bumgarner and MacKenzie Gore. In this short clip you get to see that windup as he fights back from a 3-0 count.

It will be interesting to see how the Pirates handle one of their prized prospects in the system. He was one of the most highly touted players in the draft, so a push to Bradenton at some point in 2022 wouldn’t be a surprise.

Then again, with that delivery the Pirates may want to hold him back to make any kind of adjustments to ensure consistency. Check out our scouting feature on him this week.

Matt Fraizer

Should probably get use to seeing highlights from Matt Fraizer as he looks to take the next step after his breakout 2021 season.

Anthony began writing over 10 years ago, starting a personal blog to cover the 2011 MLB draft, where the Pirates selected first overall. After bouncing around many websites covering hockey, he refocused his attention to baseball, his first love when it comes to sports. He eventually found himself here at Pirates Prospects in late 2021, where he covers the team’s four full season minor league affiliates.
