WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE
The Pirates signed Dotel in fall 2020.  He had some projection and had reached 95 mph.  As of 2023, he was sometimes throwing as hard as 97-98 mph, sitting at 94.  He also has a good slider.  All of his pitches get swings and misses at a decent rate and he hasn’t been easy to hit.  When he has trouble, it’s generally his control.

The Pirates sent Dotel to the FCL for his debut.  He made five starts and six relief appearances, and pitched well apart from a few control meltdowns.  One of those, in which he gave up four earned runs without recording an out, inflated his numbers a good deal.  Considering that he skipped the DSL and spent the season at age 18, it was a very good debut.

The Pirates sent Dotel back to the FCL, which was a little disappointing.  He pitched well again, with improved control, while opponents batted .198 against him.  He moved up to Bradenton for two appearances and couldn’t throw strikes in those games.

Dotel will go to Bradenton in 2023.
