WTM’S PLAYER PROFILE

Capra started off as a shortstop when he was drafted, but quickly evolved into a utility player.  He’s shown decent to good hitting ability, with some gap power.  He’s had very good plate discipline in the last year or so, just fair before that.  The Pirates acquired Capra for Tyler Heineman.

2018
A-:  235/344/371, 132 AB, 10 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 21 BB, 33 K, 8-10 SB
A:  266/324/351, 94 AB, 8 2B, 8 BB, 19 K, 1-1 SB

In his debut, Capra played exclusively at short over two levels.  He hit for some gap power and did just a decent job of getting on base.

2019
AA:  229/295/309, 388 AB, 20 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 33 BB, 83 K, 15-19 SB

The Jays jumped Capra all the way up to AA, where he played mostly second and third, with a little time at short and in center.  He didn’t hit much.

2021
AA:  327/396/548, 248 AB, 17 2B, 4 3B, 10 HR, 25 BB, 74 K, 4-5 SB
AAA:  000/200/000, 8 AB, 1 BB, 3 K

Following the pandemic season, the Jays sent Capra back to AA and he had a big year, even hitting for good power.  He missed the first month of the season and a couple weeks in June with injuries.  Capra played mostly third, with a little time in left and at short.

2022
R:  800/875/1.600, 5 AB, 4 2B, 1 HR, 2 BB
A:  385/385/769, 13 AB, 5 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 3 K
AAA:  283/378/403, 191 AB, 6 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR, 29 BB, 29 K, 5-7 SB
MLB:  200/429/200, 5 AB, 2 2B, 2 BB, 1 K

Capra opened the season in AAA, then got a callup to the majors in late April.  He was only with Toronto briefly, then went back to AAA.  Capra missed all of June and July, not counting rehab, with an injury, then returned to AAA for the rest of the year.  He had a solid season there, with good plate discipline.  In the field he played mainly third, short and left.  The Jays removed him from the roster in the off-season and he opted for free agency, but he signed a minor league deal with the Jays a day later.

2023
AAA (Tor):  167/357/222, 54 AB, 3 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 14 BB, 13 K, 1-2 SB

Toronto sent Capra back to AAA to start the season.  He didn’t do much there and, at the end of April, the Jays sent him to the Pirates in exchange for Tyler Heineman.

The Pirates had a lot of upper level injuries in the early stages of 2023, so Capra will initially provide reinforcements for Indianapolis.
