WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
The Pirates signed Deyzel just before he turned 18. He participated in the Major League Baseball African Elite Camp, where Gift Ngoepe was an instructor. Deyzel hasn’t been playing baseball long and was a position player until recently. By the time the Pirates signed him, he had his fastball up to 88 mph, and by 2016 he was up to 90. He also throws a curve and change.
2015 The Pirates assigned Deyzel to the GCL, but he never got into a game. The issue may have been visa problems. 2016 Deyzel pitched in relief in the GCL, but struggled to throw strikes. 2017 The Pirates sent Deyzel back to the GCL, where he served part of the time as closer. Despite the ERA, he pitched much better, but still walked more than he struck out. 2018 Deyzel pitched in relief for Bristol, struggling with his control. He did start to show some ability to miss bats. Deyzel hasn’t done well so far, but he could get a shot at Morgantown in 2019. |
