UPDATE (6/22/2010, 9:20 PM): Dejan reports that Holt's MCL is sprained but his meniscus is torn. He will undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season.
Apparently, 93.7 The Fan reported this morning that Neil Walker has been recalled from Triple-A, and that Steve Pearce would likely be placed on the DL with a sprained ankle. I haven’t seen this reported anywhere else, so take it with a grain of salt for now. it may have just been speculation.
The Pirates promoted Bradenton reliever Diego Moreno to Double-A Altoona today. The 23-year-old Moreno struck out 39 batters in 26.1 High-A innings, while handing out only two walks.
Pitching prospect Bryan Morris, who has not allowed an earned run in 33 innings for High-A Bradenton, will be promoted to Double-A Altoona. Neal Huntington said that Morris could be promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis by the end of the season.
The Pirates placed pitcher Chris Jakubauskas on the disabled list this morning, after he was hit in the head by a Lance Berkman comebacker last night. Jakubauskas was released from the hospital after being diagnosed with a head contusion and concussion. The Pirates also optioned Daniel McCutchen to Triple-A, and called up Brian Burres and Brian Bass. To make room on the 40-man roster for Bass, minor league outfielder Brandon Jones was designated for assignment. Jeff Karstens also may be brought up from Triple-A to start on Tuesday. Karstens is not currently on the 40-man roster.
