Tejeda was one of the Pirates’ top signings in 2018-19. He couldn’t sign at the beginning of the signing period because he wasn’t 16 yet, so he waited until his birthday. He’s a line drive hitter whom some scouts think will eventually move to second.
2019 Tejeda just held his own in his initial season, with weak plate discipline. He played mostly at short and had some trouble with errors, posting a fielding percentage of .878. 2020 2021 The Pirates did not bring Tejeda to fall instructionals in 2020, which probably wasn’t a good sign. He went to the FCL and played short regularly. His defense improved but, other than showing some power, he struggled at the plate. 2022 Tejeda opened the season playing second and third in the FCL, and got off to a very encouraging start. He showed a much better approach and better strike zone judgment, and hit the ball well. Unfortunately, after nine games he got hurt and returned just for four games in August. On defense, he had no errors in 13 games. Hopefully, Tejeda will get a chance somewhere in 2023, preferably to show he’s turned things around. |
