WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE
Peralta is a small lefty who got a bonus just into six figures at age 16.  He throws in the low-90s, although he’ll occasionally crank it up to 93-94.  He adds a curve and change, and has the ability to miss a lot of bats, but doesn’t always throw enough strikes.

2018
DSL:  3-4-1, 5.63 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 48.0 IP, 4.9 BB/9, 11.6 K/9

Peralta made four starts and 15 relief appearances.  Apart from a high K rate, his numbers weren’t good.  His trouble came mostly in the starts, though.  Opponents put up a .909 OPS against him in the four starts, but only .626 in the relief appearances.

2019
DSL:  2-2-1, 2.01 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 40.1 IP, 3.6 BB/9, 7.6 K/9

The Pirates sent Peralta back to the DSL, where he made six starts and eight relief appearances.  He did much better overall, although with a much lower K rate.  This time he was better as a starter.

DNP

2021
R:  0-3-0, 3.41 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 29.0 IP, 5.6 BB/9, 11.2 K/9

Pitching mostly as a starter in the FCL, Peralta had a good year apart from control issues.  Because of the odd scheduling in the FCL, he faced the other Pirates’ FCL entry in all but one of his outings.

2022
A:  0-7-0, 6.41 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, 60.1 IP, 6.6 BB/9, 14.5 K/9

Pitching in the Bradenton rotation, Peralta had a frustrating season.  He showed extreme swing-and-miss ability, but control problems did him in.  Apart from the walks, he’d get behind in the count and then get hit hard when he tried just to get pitches over the plate.  High-pitch-count innings were another problem.  The Pirates still kept him in the rotation all year, except for the month of June, when they moved him to the development list.

Peralta is eligible for the Rule 5 draft for a second time.
