In his DSL debut, Hernandez served as a starter and probably pitched a lot better than his ERA, as he was plagued by an extremely low strand rate.  His WHIP wasn’t horrible and he had a good K rate.

Hernandez pitched mostly in relief in the FCL.  He missed a great many bats but had trouble throwing strikes.  He got somewhat better with that after his first few outings; he walked seven in his first four and a third innings and seven in his next 16.  The Pirates moved him up to Bradenton near the end of the season and he made three relief appearances.

Hernandez has a good arm and doesn’t have quite the level of control problems that some other pitchers in the lower levels have.
