Hernandez signed at age 18 just before the start of the 2021 DSL season.  He has the size that affords a lot of projection and he was already throwing 92 mph when he signed.  He adds a curve and change.

2021
DSL:  1-3-0, 2.78 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 22.2 IP, 6.0 BB/9, 10.7 K/9

Hernandez had a good debut.  He walked too many, but opponents batted only .212 and slugged just .235 against him.  All but one of his ten games came as a starter.

2022
DSL:  0-0-0, 2.84 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, 12.2 IP, 2.1 BB/9, 14.2 K/9

Hernandez’ second season was limited by injuries to four starts and one relief appearance.  Obviously, he was extremely effective when he was able to pitch.

Hopefully, Hernandez will be healthy in 2023, as he’s made a promising showing so far.
