| The Pirates took college seniors with six of their last seven picks in the 2022 draft, with Loeschorn being the last. He was mainly a starter for four years in college, going 25-4, 2.28, with a 2.5 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9. He also made five starts in the independent Frontier League between the end of his 2022 college season and the draft. He had a 6.49 ERA, which isn’t as bad as it sounds because the league ERA was 5.79 and he was several years younger than the average. Loeschorn throws 88-92 mph, and adds a slider and change.
2022 The Pirates put Loeschorn on the FCL roster in August, but he never appeared in a game. Loeschorn will head to Bradenton in 2023. The Pirates under their current front office have shown little urgency in getting their draftees into action. It’s an approach that so far is producing poor results.
