DSL:  0-0-0, 3.29 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 13.2 IP, 4.6 BB/9, 11.2 K/9

Maldonado didn’t start pitching until over a month into the DSL season.  He got into six games, two of them starts, and had high walk and K rates.  At the end of the season, the Pirates moved him up to the GCL to fill in.  He got into one game, but it was called due to rain before it became official.  The game was never resumed, so Maldonado’s stats won’t count.

2019
R+:  4-6-0, 4.34 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 45.2 IP, 5.1 BB/9, 7.9 K/9

Maldonado spent the season in the Bristol rotation, which was a good jump considering how little pro experience he had previously.  He had control problems but didn’t get hit hard, holding batters to a .238 average.  He had his best stretch in August, with a 1.35 ERA and .197 opponents’ average in four starts.

The Pirates sent Maldonado to Bradenton and he got off to a great start.  In his third game, though, he got hurt and missed the rest of the year.  The nature of the injury is unknown.

Maldonado missed the entire season.

Maldonado has promise.  Hopefully, he’ll be healthy at some point in 2023, but he started the season on the 60-day injured list.
