WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Zorrilla was one of the top players the Pirates signed in the 2020-21 international signing period. He runs well, and has the ability to hit and hit for power if he develops more consistency at the plate.
2021 Zorrilla was recovering from a shoulder injury and got only two plate appearances. He played a few innings in the field at short and third. 2022 The Pirates brought Zorrilla to minor league spring training in March 2022, but they sent him to the DSL rather than the FCL. They apparently had reason, as he was totally overmatched there. He hit for some power and drew a lot of walks, but whiffing in nearly 65% of your ABs is catastrophic. Defensively, Zorrilla played mostly at third, with six games at short. Zorrilla obviously has a very long ways to go as a hitter. It’s not totally impossible, as Javier Rivas was arguably the worst hitter in the DSL in 2021 but had a strong year in the FCL in 2022. |
