WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
The Pirates signed Pena as a shortstop, but he’s played mainly third and second so far. He was expected to bring good contact skills but not necessarily much power.
2020 2021 Pena made a brief debut, playing mostly third but a little at second. He hit very well, with great plate discipline but no power. 2022 The Pirates sent Pena back to the DSL and he didn’t hit as well as in 2021, but he showed more power and continued to draw walks in huge numbers. He played third, second and the outfield. Pena has done fairly well in his first couple seasons, but it’s best not to get carried away by a hitter whose main skill so far has been drawing walks. |
