WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Shockley played for NAIA Rio Grande for four years, although he missed nearly all of his sophomore season, apparently with an injury. He put up big numbers in a good hitting environment, batting 381/484/575 as a junior, which got him conference player of the year honors. As a senior he hit 373/495/574. In both years he walked more than he struck out. He was out of eligibility and signed a couple weeks after the draft.
2019 Shockley split the catching duties in the GCL with Daniel Angulo. Shockley threw out 27% of base stealers. He didn’t hit at all and had serious problems making contact, despite the fact that he was facing younger competition. 2020 2021 Shockley filled in at three different levels, mostly at Greensboro. 2022 Shockley got into 24 games while filling in for Altoona. A thumb injury in July ended his season early. Shockley seems to have found a role as an upper-level depth catcher, thanks to his outstanding defensive play. For one thing, since he reached AA he’s throw out 38% of base stealers. |
