Minor League Injury Updates: Holmes, Heredia, Ramirez, Luplow, Eppler, Frazier, Singh

Published:

The injury list at the Pittsburgh Pirates’ minor league camp has gotten pretty big over the last week. With the season starting in a little over a week, we’re getting to a point where some of the injured players are expected to miss the start of the season. Here is a rundown of all of the injuries and roster situations for the full-season teams.

Altoona

**Adam Frazier has a broken finger and should be out another 4-6 weeks. Frazier will split time this year between second base and shortstop. While he is out, expect Max Moroff to get some time at short, with Gift Ngoepe and Dan Gamache factoring more in the middle infield mix.

Bradenton

**Luis Heredia hasn’t been throwing off the mound yet, but has been playing catch. He has been out in order to get in better shape. Right now he’s projected for extended Spring Training.

**Clay Holmes is a couple of months away from making his regular season debut with Bradenton. The right-hander is returning from Tommy John surgery this year. He should start getting into sim games and live games soon, and will take some time to get build back up while he’s in extended Spring Training.

**Tyler Eppler was dealing with elbow tenderness this Spring and hasn’t been pitching off the mound the last few weeks. He is back to playing catch, and should take some time getting built back up, with the expectation that he should be ready at some point in the first half. Eppler was slated to be one of the members of the Bradenton starting rotation.

**Wes Freeman will be out 4-6 weeks with a knee injury. Freeman is one of the players battling for a bench spot in Bradenton.

**Rinku Singh will miss the entire 2015 season. He tried to return last year during instructional leagues, but broke his elbow. This will be the third year in a row that Singh has missed, with the last two being due to Tommy John surgery.

West Virginia

**Carl Anderson, taken in the 19th round out of college last year, will undergo hernia surgery. Anderson would have been a bench outfielder in West Virginia.

**RHP Eric Karch has an elbow injury, with no timetable for his return.

**Kevin Krause also has an elbow injury, with no timetable for his return. The 2014 9th round pick was going to split time between catcher and right field this season.

**Jordan Luplow will be the regular third baseman in West Virginia this year, but is currently out due to his shoulder flaring up. He resumed throwing yesterday, and at this point will be close to breaking with camp.

**Harold Ramirez got back in games yesterday, and should be close to being ready for the start of the year. Ramirez has been out with conditioning issues. He is expected to start back in West Virginia now.
