TOP OF THE SYSTEM
A look at how the current top 20 prospects did today. Note that this list doesn’t include players currently in the majors (Stolmy Pimentel #13). If a player is in the majors, he will be removed, everyone below him will be shifted up a spot, and a new player will be added to the bottom of the list. If a player is out for the season (Jameson Taillon #2, Clay Holmes #12), he will be removed and everyone below him will move up a spot. Removing these guys doesn’t mean they have lost prospect status. It is just an attempt to get 20 active prospects on the list. Rankings are from the 2014 Prospect Guide, and links on each name go to their Pirates Prospects player pages.

Polanco had two singles, scored a run and drove in a run, plus he stole his 12th base of the season. Rojas had a single and a walk, while also striking out twice. Matt Hague and Tony Sanchez each had an RBI. Sanchez has 11 RBIs in ten games with Indianapolis. Hague has 30 RBIs this year. Jaff Decker hit his 12th double of the season. Adam Wilk took the loss, giving up six runs over 7.2 innings. Tyler Waldron threw the last 1.1 innings, giving up one run.
AA: ALTOONA CURVE
Result: New Hampshire 4, Altoona 0
Starting Pitcher: Nick Kingham, RHP – 7.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HR
Top Hitter: Jarek Cunningham, 3B – 2-for-3, 2B
Other Notable Performers:
Keon Broxton, CF – 1-for-3, 2B, BB
Live Report: The Curve cannot seem to break from their losing streak, dropping today’s game to New Hampshire 4-0.
Hard luck loser Nick Kingham went seven innings tonight, allowing four runs, two of which were earned. He surrendered eight hits and punched out seven Fisher Cats(his season high). The good sign from tonight’s game, Kingham only allowed one walk. This is his 3rd straight start with two or less walks, going seven innings in all three appearances. He threw 66 of his 100 pitches for strikes. Hopefully, this is a sign for Kingham that his early season control issues are behind him. He finished May with a 2.61 ERA in six starts Jhonathan Ramos followed Kingham tossing a perfect 8th, followed by Joan Montero with a scoreless 9th, allowing one hit.
The Curve offense followed a bad performance last night with an even worse outing today. Jarek Cunningham and Keon Broxton collected the only three Altoona hits in the game, Cunningham having two of them. The team struck out a total of ten times tonight, bringing the weekend total to 26 so far. The recently promoted Mel Rojas Jr. was replaced by Junior Sosa on the roster, although Sosa did not see action today.- John Kokales
A+: BRADENTON MARAUDERS
Result: Clearwater 1, Bradenton 0
Starting Pitcher: Orlando Castro, LHP – 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 0 HR
Top Hitter: Max Moroff, 2B – 2-for-3, BB, SB
Other Notable Performers:
Josh Bell, RF – 0-for-3, BB
Game Notes: Orlando Castro pitched well tonight, allowing one run over six innings. In his last five starts combined, he has allowed six runs over 29 innings. On the season, Castro has an 8/45 BB/K ratio in 61.2 innings. Ryan Hafner followed him with two scoreless innings. Bradenton had the same struggles at the plate that Altoona had. Max Moroff and Jonathan Schwind had two singles apiece, accounting for all of the Marauders hits. Both of them stole a base. Moroff also drew a walk, one of four for Bradenton. The team had ten strikeouts and went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
A: WEST VIRGINIA POWER
Result: Greensboro 5, West Virginia 3
Starting Pitcher: Buddy Borden, RHP – 5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 1 HR
Top Hitter: Edwin Espinal, 1B – 2-for-4, 2 RBI
Other Notable Performers:
JaCoby Jones, SS – 1-for-4
Erich Weiss, 2B – 1-for-3, 2B, HBP
Game Notes: Buddy Borden wasn’t his usual self, going five innings without a strikeout. He came into the game with 45 strikeouts in 46.1 innings. He also was off his game in another way, but this one was a good sign. Borden had an 0.98 GO/AO ratio coming into the game. He recorded 12 outs via ground balls on Saturday, with just one out coming on a fly ball.
West Virginia didn’t get on the scoreboard until the eighth inning, when they put up all three of their runs. The first 13 Power hitters were retired in order, with Erich Weiss breaking the streak in the fifth inning with a double. Edwin Espinal was the only player in the lineup to collect more than one hit(two singles) and he also had the only RBIs. Reese McGuire wasn’t in the starting lineup tonight. He extended his hitting streak to 19 games on Friday.
